From time to time I have these random thoughts running through my head and figure this would be a good way to share them with folks. Which insurance company should I switch to? What is the deal with the black taco? Plus my impressions of This is It and more. Read on for a sort of stream of consciousness of what has been bouncing around my nugget lately.

I see all of these insurance commercials telling me that I can save hundreds of dollars by switching to their company. There are ads that claim the average policy holder saves over $400 when switching to their brand of insurance. The thing that seems odd to me is that if I can save several hundred dollars no matter who I switch to then which companies are the ones who are apparently gouging consumers with high rates?

I wonder if the new black tacos at Taco Bell taste different than the regular tacos. What is the point of the black taco? Or, is it just some lame marketing gimmick from Taco Bell?

I went and saw This is It the Michael Jackson movie last weekend. While it was entertaining the notion that this is worthy of a best picture Oscar as I read last week, or, that it is a brilliant piece of film-making as Liz Taylor suggested seems a bit much. Like I said it was entertaining but all it really consists of is clips of the rehearsals and some shots of how things came together, but, that was about it. There was not a lot of personality in the movie. I was expecting more footage and/or interviews from dancers, singers, etc. on how Michael passing affected them. What we got were some of the show’s participants telling us what it meant to them to be in the show in 30 seconds or less.

I don’t know, like I said, it was entertaining and I enjoyed it and all, but, it just seemed to be missing something. One does leave the movie thinking it would have been one awesome spectacle if they had pulled it off. It seemed as though there were costume and set changes for just about every number in the show. I am curious to know how they intended on pulling off all of these changes without having the crowd sitting around for two or three minutes in between songs while the set is changed and the performers change costumes and not lose the flow and the energy of the show.

I am really digging the new John Mayer tune Who Says for some reason. I am not a really big John Mayer fan but this song just caught my ear the other day.

I am also into the Michael Franti tune Say Hey that is one catchy tune. It has sort of a nice Caribbean/Reggae tinge to it. Easily one of the best pop songs I have heard in a while. I got to see him and his band Spearhead when they opened for Dave Matthews in they summer of ’08. They were alright but they did not play anything that I had ever heard before.

Also, Kings of Leon albums are only $6.99 on iTunes right now get them before the offer runs out and they re-price them back to $9.99 or whatever they were previously going for.

If you are looking for a good country album check out Darius Rucker’s, known as Hootie to most of us, latest album Learn to Live. It is pretty catchy with a lot of good lyrics in the songs. Darius has always been good at crafting songs with personalized lyrics and not just a bunch of generic pop songs that sell records. It is easily one of the best albums I have bought in the last year.

The Pickle watched “The Prestige” starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale recently. As usual, the Christopher Nolan flick did not disappoint. Far different from the 2 Batman films he has directed, “The Prestige” is more a psychological thriller than anything else. In fact, the Pickle is still trying to digest everything that happened in the 2 hour and 10 minute film! If you want to watch something that will have you thinking about it days after you’ve watched it, see this movie. The Pickle just might watch it again himself.
