Fantasy Football Stock Report: 08-27-2010
The latest fantasy football stock report.
Stock Up
Players whose stock is on the rise.
Sam Bradford, St. Louis Rams (QB) – Threw well during his first start as a pro quarterback.
Bottom Line: Fans are not interested in seeing A. J. Feeley under center in St. Louis. Bradford showed a good command of the offense and looked ready to go for the season opener. Barring injury I cannot think of a reason why Bradford would not start the season opener.
Derek Anderson, Arizona Cardinals (QB) – Anderson will start the Cards’ third preseason game.
Bottom Line: It is a rather telling sign when the backup quarterback gets the call for the third preseason game which is generally seen as a “dress rehearsal” for the season opener.
Jermichael Finley, Green Bay Packers (TE) – Caught six more passes against Indy.
Bottom Line: Finley has been lights out in the preseason and there is a lot of buzz about him being one of the breakout fantasy stars this season.
Sammie Stroughter, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (WR) – Stroughter is expected to start this weekend at one of the receiver positions.
Bottom Line: It has been widely speculated that Arrelious Benn and Mike Williams would open the season as the top two guys, but it would appear that Strougher remains a favorite of head coach Raheem Morris.
Brandon Gibson/Danny Amendola (WR) – Gibson and Amendola combined to catch 9 passes Thursday.
Bottom Line: With Donnie Avery out for the foreseeable future Gibson and Amendola should benefit by moving up the depth chart and becoming the team’s two starting wide outs.
Stock Down
Players whose stock is on the decline.
Donnie Avery, St. Louis Rams (WR) – Avery went down in a heap during the game against New England and never returned.
Bottom Line: It was reported after the game that Avery suffered what appeared to be a significant knee injury. Unless one hears otherwise owners should probably not count on Avery giving them any kind of significant numbers the first half of the season, if at all.
Matt Leinart, Arizona Cardinals (QB) – Leinart will be the #2 guy for the Cards third preseason game.
Bottom Line: It is never a good thing when the starter gets demoted to second string for the third preseason game. Unless Anderson falls on his face this weekend Leinart is probably destined for the bench and his days in Arizona could be numbered.
Donald Brown, Indianapolis Colts (RB) – Ran for just six yards on five carries.
Bottom Line: Brown has run for just 25 yards on 14 carries and 13 of those yards came on one carry.
