Dez Bryant to Work Out for the Cowboys

It is being reported that the Dallas Cowboys have scheduled a private workout with Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant on April 1 just two days after he is scheduled to work out for pro teams in Lufkin, Texas.

If true it is an interesting development for a Cowboys team that has Pro Bowler Miles Austin and Roy Williams as their two starters.  It is being rumored this off season that Jerry Jones is none to happy about Williams’ play last season and that he could be on the chopping block in Irving.  The Cowboys are believed to be in the market for a secondary caliber receiver in this year’s draft.

I am not sure how much I would read into this however.  Yes, Bryant’s draft stock is dropping given how he has handled himself at times off the field since his suspension.  There are rumblings of him being another Michael Crabtree in terms of his attitude which is pushing him down some draft boards.

With that said it seems highly unlikely that the Cowboys will be able to land Bryant unless they make a deal to be able to make a significant jump up in the draft.   I currently have Bryant going to the Broncos with the 11th pick.  There has been a lot of speculation that teams at the top of the draft are interested in trading down, but, it will take quite a bit for the 27th team to move up into the top 10 of the draft.

If that is what it conceivably takes for the Cowboys to land Bryant then I would question whether it is a smart move on Jones’ part.  They have much bigger needs along the offensive line and in the secondary if they want to get back into contention next season.  Getting a top flight receiver is not exactly a pressing need for the Cowboys this off season.
