Iverson Not Returning to Sixers
The Philadelphia 76ers announced Tuesday that Allen Iverson will not be returning to the team this season and that he will be released. Iverson has not been with the team since February 22nd when he took a leave of absence from the team to care for his sick daughter.
Nobody knows what the illness is or in what kind of shape his daughter is in. The move is not unexpected as Iverson was bringing nothing to the team past a bump in ticket sales and was not willing to come off the bench.
While it is kind of sad that AI will not get to go out on his own terms with a proper send off the team, specifically the younger players, are better off without him. Now Eddie Jordan can focus on starting Jrue Holiday and Lou Williams and giving them the minutes they deserve and need to play to continue developing into quality guards. The AI sideshow and his insistence on starting detracted a bit from that. The Sixers can now move on with their lives and focus on the future rather than coddling an aging superstar whose ego had not come to grips with the idea that he is no longer a star in the league.
