NFL: Jevan Snead Enters 2010 NFL Draft
Mississippi junior quarterback announced he would forgo his senior season and enter the 2010 NFL draft Thursday. Snead, who entered the season being touted as one of the top two or three QB prospects in the nation, has seen his stock tumble drastically this fall.
The Mel Kiper’s of the world were all over Snead’s pro potential on the heels of a strong second half of his sophomore season. I have never understood all of the hype around Snead. When one looks at his number from 2008 he was nothing special and it is almost as if the experts are touting him because of he led Ole Miss in its Cotton Bowl route of Texas Tech last January.
The thing about Snead is he showed no real progression during his junior season for the Rebels. His completion percentage dropped from 56.3 to 54.4 percent and his interceptions went from 15 to 20. He has a fairly strong arm, but, his accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. College quarterbacks with low completion percentages and a lot of interceptions tend to not fare so well in the NFL. Snead is a guy who would truly benefit from another year of college ball.
There is virtually no way he goes any where in the neighborhood of the first or second round. Given all of his short-comings, to me, he is going to be someone who a team takes a flyer on in the middle to late rounds in hopes he develops into something three or four years down the road. He has a lot of work to do in improving his accuracy before he ever starts a game in the NFL.
