NBA: Shots From Beyond the Arc

So the Sixers finally pulled the trigger on Allen Iverson and are bringing him back into the fold, for the time being.  The contract is a non-guaranteed contract meaning the Sixers can release him and cut their losses at any time without having to pay the balance of the contract.  As I wrote the other day I am not sure why the Sixers are making this move, or, if it is really in their best interests to do so.

It is not as if the Sixers were considered a legit contender prior to Williams and Marreese Speights getting injured.  I suppose it is valiant or commendable that the Sixers are making a move that they think makes them a better team in terms of its playoff status, but, one really has to wonder if it is worth it when they could potentially have a shot at winning the lottery and drafting John Wall whom many think is going to be the next in the line of young play makers to burst onto the scene and make an impact just a year removed from high school a-la Derrick Rose and Brandon Jennings.

At any rate it is going to be interesting how this all plays out.  I, for one, will not be shocked if he is released once Lou Williams is ready to once again assume a starting role.  Actually, it would be kind of nice if the Sixers could figure out a way to dump the waste that is Willie Green and keep Iverson on the rest of the season.

Iverson is expected to make his Sixers re-debut next week against the Denver Nuggets.

In other news Ron Artest admits to The Sporting News in an interview set to hit newsstands this week that he used to drink Hennessy during halftime of games when he played in Chicago.  I am not sure what is more disconcerting about this admission, one that he used to do it, or that he seemingly got away with it without anyone noticing or caring.

I am kind of curious how he got away with it during games.  Did he smuggle some into a bathroom stall?  Did he simply knock one back at his locker when nobody was looking?  Ultimately, though, is anyone at all surprised that Artest is copping to a history of substance abuse in his younger wilder days?

With Courtney Lee making it back into the lineup this week and Yi Jianlin expected to see some playing time in the next week or so the Nets may very well experience the sweet taste of victory any day now.

Kevin Love and Timberwolves are targeting either this Saturday’s game against the Jazz or next Tuesday’s contest versus Toronto for his season debut.

There is growing speculation that Blake Griffin could be back in action for the Clippers by the new year.  He is scheduled to have a MRI in the next 10 days and the Clippers are hoping he is cleared to begin running again.
