NFL: Brian Westbrook Suffers Another Concussion
Philadelphia’s Brian Westbrook left Sunday’s game with his second concussion in less than a month leading to speculation as to when he will play again. Of course nothing definitive has been announced and the Eagles will likely not make a decision until further tests are done later this week.
There is tons of speculation swirling about as to whether Westbrook will play again this year and some think his career may be over. I would be surprised if he we see Westbrook again this season given this was just his second game back since suffering his first concussion three weeks ago against the Redskins.
Look for the Eagles to put Westbrook on Injured Reserve and bring Larry Johnson and/or Edgerrin James in for workouts to see if they can provide some depth behind LeSean McCoy who is likely to assume the starting role at running back once again.
P. J. Hill was signed off the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad a couple of weeks ago when Omar Gaither was placed on injured reserve and the Eagles were not sure if Westbrook would be able to play against Dallas. But, it remains to be seen if Hill is going to amount to anything at the NFL level.
McCoy’s selection in last April’s draft has seemed rather fortuitous as he has already started three games for Westbrook this season. Losing Westbrook hurts them from a depth and leadership standpoint, but, McCoy has proven himself worthy when filling in for Westbrook rushing for 220 yards on 44 carries and scoring a pair of touchdowns.
The Eagles should not suffer too much from Westbrook’s absence but will be in big trouble if McCoy goes down to injury.
