NFL: Week Six – Kansas City Chiefs vs. Washington Redskins
Kansas City Chiefs (14) vs. Washington Redskins (6)
The Kansas City Chiefs beat the reeling Redskins in what ended up being a battle of attrition. Neither team was able to accumulate more than 270 yards of offense or score a touchdown as the Chiefs notched their first win of the season while the ‘Skins fell to 2-4 dropping their second straight game.
Jason Campbell, Washington’s starting quarterback struggled to find a rhythm for the third straight game and was benched at the half in favor of veteran backup Todd Collins after completing 9 of 16 passes for 89 yards. Collins did not fare any better completing just 6 of 14 pass attempts for 75 yards. On the day Redskins’ QBs combined to complete 15 of 30 passes for 164 yards. Kansas City’s Matt Cassel struggled as well completing just 17 of 32 passes for 186 yards.
On the surface it would appear that Clinton Portis had a strong game for the Redskins rushing for 109 yards on 15 carries until one considers that 78 of those came on one play. Meanwhile Kansas City’s Larry Johnson muddled his way to 83 yards on 23 carries.
Kansas City wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was the lone offensive bright spot in this game catching 6 balls for 109 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball Washington’s Andre Carter’s 2 sacks led a pass rush that notched five sacks on the day for the Redskins.
Initial fall out of this game has Jim Zorn being stripped of his play-calling duties after another lack luster offensive performance by the Redskins. Sherm Lewis has been dubbed the new play caller for the time being as Zorn’s days as head coach in D. C. are clearly numbered. If Zorn could quit and still collect the remainder of his salary he probably would at this juncture.

Carter has notched 4.5 sacks over the last two weeks for the ‘Skins.
